There's a certain beauty to it. And I suppose you could say it's to waltzing what Kant's masterpieces are to classical masterworks.

Well, I suppose that's fair, isn't it.

Speaking of Kant, I'm assuming that all's well with him after that week or so?

He didn't take well to being separated from me, so he's been a bit clingy ever since. The others did a little better; my starter has grown into his independence, and the other doesn't mind his Pokeball or the thought of being in the PC.

Kant's never away from me. And to his perception, I was the one who up and disappeared.

Oh, I can imagine; mine have been doing well enough, even if one is more concerned than usual and another won't stop following me around. The third has always been more of an independent one, though.

Either way, they don't seem too shaken up overall, which is admittedly nice.

Which reminds me. Did you learn Morse in the army?

The first, actually. He's...an interesting one, to put it lightly.

And I did, yes. I never used it very often, but it's been useful the few times I have.

It made him happy. Not so much that you answered him in Morse — he understands just fine if you talk to him — but that you evidently could understand him. I usually have to translate.

Which understandably makes it difficult when he wants to pass secret messages about me and they have to go through me to do it.

Why did you pick it up yourself? Was it just something you felt like learning?

Codes and ciphers fascinated me as a child. As I got older, that area of interest became useful at my...job. The one I had prior to my current career, that is.

Honestly, I would place you as some sort of interrogator who deals with international affairs.

You're not; I'm just trying to decide whether or not I ought to be flattered.

My job was to hunt down criminals. That's why I ended up crossing paths with so many psychopaths.

Ah - that sort of thing was always left to a unit of our military, which is why it wouldn't have occurred to me; it would have involved far too many weapons and entirely too much bloodshed for your liking, because it's not uncommon for our criminals to be capable of using alchemy and they tended to not go quietly.

Interrogation would involve far less of that.

For what it's worth, my criminals tended not to go quietly, either. It made things unbalanced — and a challenge — because I wouldn't use weapons against them, but they had no such reservations about me.

Oh, I can imagine they wouldn't.

Our weapons are just a bit more unbalanced than what most here seem to be used to; I trust you see what I mean now that you've gotten to see one of them in action now.

I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a moment where it crossed my mind, what I'd have done if I'd been tasked with the challenge of stopping you.

There's not much that can, when you have your alchemy at your fingertips, is there?

Not without either using another alchemist or putting a bullet in the criminal's brain.
