That latter point would be exactly why I don't have one.

You know, I have eleven things that fly on my roster and I honestly don't think a single one would meet your preferred criteria.

Almost nothing that flies does, but then, I've always hated birds.

I had a Togekiss before I was sent back to Amestris last year, however. That one was actually fun.

If you don't have some deep-seated objection to suits of armor, Golurk can fly. It's a nine-foot steel golem.

...Some people from the world I'm from might find that to be in poor taste - it's a long story - but that's never bothered me before. I'll keep that in mind.

Why does it surprise you, though?

My boyfriend was afraid of them. The reason I got my first dragon was so that we could travel together; prior to that, all I had were birds, and he didn't have anything that knew Fly. So I usually drove, and for that I needed something with wings that wouldn't send him into fits.

Ah, I see - it's not a fear in my case so much as it is general dislike. It's the possibility of contamination and finding them largely annoying in terms of behavior, primarily.

You're going to twitch when I tell you I occasionally sleep on mine, aren't you.

Oh, I doubt the bird contamination will kill me before the radiation waves from the Gear will.

Well, surely you know you can't just leave it at that.

I wasn't planning to.

It was a collapsible glider. It was light enough to wear on your back and you could trigger the wings to extend by remote in a timespan of...oh, about a second or two. I won't get into specifics of how it was powered because I imagine you'll just get the wrong idea and start wondering how it didn't set my back on fire or burn my legs clean off, but suffice to say, I could climb the Goldenrod Radio Tower and leap off backwards, and be soaring back up before I was halfway to the ground.

You know, while I've appreciated the occasional discussion about these things that we've had, I can say with all certainty that if I were to see the world you come from, that's the sort of technology that would interest me.

It has its practical uses, I'm sure, but I've never been opposed to practical things that can enable my usual tendencies toward recklessness.

My organization has an entire division dedicated solely to designing and manufacturing toys like that for me. Headed up by a mad scientist, of course; her tendency to try to backstab me is a permissible tradeoff in exchange for the work she puts out.

It's designed for my weight, though; you'd need one calibrated to your own measurements. Not that it'd be particularly difficult — especially not considering the person you'd be asking for it. She speaks Drachman, too.

Well, this certainly explains why you get along so well with Caroline - more than a bit mad, but perfectly willing to make toys.

Although I admit I'd be interested for the Drachman alone - I understand that it's quite the large country where you're from and so it's likely not as uncommon to find people who speak the language, but it was a bit of a rare thing in Amestris.

Caroline reminds me a lot of her, actually. It's a little nostalgic, really. And there's also considerably less backstabbing, which isn't such a bad thing, either.

She'd try to steal you away from me, you know. It'd be painfully endearing to watch.

Is that so? What makes you think she'd attempt - just the tendencies toward backstabbing in general? Or is there something about me in particular?

For reference, I should point out that she once trapped me in an electrified enclosure and then dressed up as me to commit a series of incredibly tasteless and uncharacteristic-of-me thefts.

As for why she'd attempt...well. You're not exactly hard on the eyes, for one thing. You'd be introduced as "mine" in some capacity, for another. You speak Drachman, that's a third.

And like her, you absolutely adore explosions.

Exactly how much trouble would I be in if I asked how attractive she is?

If you're expecting any answer other than "less so than me", I don't know what to tell you.

But if you promise to stroke my ego afterwards, I'll describe her for you.

I don't see why not, then. Go on.

She's about my height and build, but with short hair — dark, with a white streak in the front. She wears it sort of up? Not in a twist or an updo, exactly, but...it's short, and up off her face. Her lipstick color of choice is pink; she forgot to change it to red when she decided to impersonate me, not that anyone noticed. She wears her share of trench coats and boots, and usually dresses in fairly bright colors — purple, pink, blue-gray. She'd stand out next to you, let's put it that way.

And I can't tell you what her eye color is because her most distinguishing feature is the pair of goggles she always wears. I don't think I've ever seen her without them. They're the sort that are narrow and rounded, and designed to fit right over the eye. The lenses in hers are designed to magnify things, if memory serves; it helps her with her very fine wiring work.

Well, she sounds like an interesting one, I'll give her that much.

That said, I doubt you have much to worry about.

I figured I'd be polite and avoid the simpler summation that she's not what you'd call conventionally attractive, no.

She is brilliant, though. It's not as though my criteria for keeping someone around starts and ends with their looks.

It isn't as though my criteria for finding people interesting starts and ends there, either.

I'd be interested in meeting her.
