Something like that - I don't tend to stay when we're fighting, I usually go elsewhere.

Well, it's not as though I was going to stay outside. Besides, the boyfriend I've told you about was here at the time.

Caroline's current residence is an old haunt of mine. Also on impulse, but impulse of a different breed of necessity.

I've wondered before about how you handled your boyfriend and your superior, you know. Was it mostly the same as with Lisa?

He's never seemed to mind the boyfriend as much - perhaps because I'm not usually interested in men and he likely assumed it was some sort of exception. Who knows, really; it's not something I've asked him about.

...Admittedly, the boyfriend was also not terribly bright and incredibly gullible, so that may have had something to do with it.

...Not the sort of person that makes a good rival, I'd imagine, when you put it like that.

We tell each other all these stories about the people we know and remember. Assuming as a given that we'd be telling them in the first place, have you ever thought about the ones we might recall about each other someday?

Once in a while I have - though I admit I thought about it more when we first started talking, oddly enough.

I can think of a few answers, and I want to see if one of them turns out to be right.

You liked to tell me about the psychopaths you know; I wondered a few times if I was going to be another.

That you thought about it more early on because thinking about it in the first place is premised on the assumption that someday I won't be around.

And nowadays, you prefer not to imagine a world without me around in the first place.
