I did warn you I was being sentimental. The familiar sights of a nostalgic locale...

I remember where I was a year ago, this time of year. In comparison to where I am now, I'm not sure if it's been a change for the better.

My significant other was sick right around this time last year. You remember the virus that went around, I assume?

Believe me, if I could forget that particular virus, I gladly would.

I would've phrased it as, "I remained fortuitously immune", personally.

He had it worse than most people.

Our significant others had similar luck, then; however, mine insisted on hiding his own issues from me for quite some time. I suppose he thought it was for the best; perhaps it was, as I wasn't in any condition to be handling anyone else's problems.

What sort of symptoms was yours showing, through curiosity?

Plates, fangs, spines, and a fever that wouldn't break. Are you familiar with Lichtenberg figures?

I believe so. Those branching effects caused by high-energy discharges, aren't they?

There was a strange sort of beauty to them, but it was hard to appreciate it amid the worry.

Consider yourself fortunate to have been unaffected; the power that particular incident tended to cause was certainly interesting, but nowhere near worth the hassle.

...I may have answers, but I have very few specifics. I have to withhold some things due to them being classified information. I have to withhold others because I legitimately don't know.

In that case — are you aware of who caused the incident?

I know who was responsible for the initial strains of it. I have no idea what caused it to be spread to the public like that.

To your knowledge, does anyone know what caused it to spread?

To my knowledge, no.

Then would I also be correct in assuming that you don't know what made some people susceptible to it but others immune?

You would be correct, yes.

I don't think it was supposed to spread like that, however; I wouldn't be surprised if that was an accidental effect, not a deliberate one.

And it had something to do with the legend behind the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City, didn't it?
