As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter why they died - whether it was through no fault of their own, or every fault of their own - and it doesn't matter how much or how little the deceased meant to me personally. I never even spoke to most of them. But the fact of the matter is that it's still a life lost, and more to the point it's a life that ended because of me. Why shouldn't I do them the basic respect of acknowledging them and ensuring I remember them? Whether I cared about them or not, they were still people at one point.
If anything, I'd think I don't deserve to not look.
