If you're referring to the one I'm thinking about, I've known about him for quite some time. I've also known about the person he's with - lovely girl, really.

I'm going to hope it's the same one, if only because I'd frankly find it concerning if there were more than one.

Were you trying to sound as particularly sinister as you did, there?

That hardly matters, since I'm not under any orders to go after them; I honestly don't care what they do either way. It's entirely possible that someone will be told to deal with them eventually; it's entirely possible that no one will bother because they weren't particularly valuable.

Dare I ask what dealing with them would entail?

That depends on who's sent after them.

Who knows? Whatever difficulties may come of it, maybe they'll find their impending matrimony to be worth it.

What good would punishing you do, other than to make them feel better about having enacted some semblance of retribution on a known villain?

It's not going to stop you. It's certainly not going to reform you. And in all likelihood, it's not even going to convince you that you did something wrong.

Perhaps it won't; at the same time, they're justified in seeking their retribution. I'm aware that what I'm doing is both illegal and highly sadistic, and deserves to be punished as such; if I'm stupid enough to get myself caught, then that's my problem.

Someone caught me, yes. Technically.

Someone I've spoken to a time or two before over the network found me. He kicked the door down and said he wanted to maim me; I convinced him that that was likely a bad idea for a few reasons.

I asked him why he was doing what he was doing. Whether he was angry with me or just doing some sort of job, or whether he had other reasons for acting as he did. He answered me and then returned the question.

I told him what I've told you, and what I've told the others. About war, and why I partake in it; about my role in the world. I'm not entirely sure what part of what I said made him change his mind, but the fact is that he let me go. I suppose he understood, in a way that most of our noble heroes don't.

I'm honestly not sure what to think of all that.

Well, I'm hardly one to talk about judgment calls that ended up assisting you in evading the pursuit of justice, am I.

I don't know. I wonder what it was that made him do that.

I imagine I'll find out one day; it would be a shame if I never spoke to him again either way.
