014. [Anonymous Text/Video/Action for Goldenrod City] - ROCKET PLOT
[ANONYMOUS TEXT]
[Unlike the other anonymous messages that this particular 'Gear tends to send out, there are no images attached to this one. Nor are there any particularly threatening messages - in fact, the message attached isn't threatening at all! Really, unless you're keeping very close track of who's sending what, you wouldn't think it was coming from the same source.]
i understand that there are a lot of you who were disappointed last week - something about how there were no fireworks on the fourth??? and there was something else called tanabata that not everyone may have heard of. i'm glad that people are spreading the word about things like that - celebrating culture is important!
and because it's important, a few of my friends and i have arranged a surprise for you! most people seem to be in goldenrod city, so we'll do it there - meet us in the square in front of the department store at sundown tonight. we want to make johto a special place for you, and to make you feel welcome here - i hope the later date isn't too disappointing!
if you can't be there, don't worry! i'll broadcast the fun for you over the network; it'll be great!
[Well. Uh. While it's completely anonymous and therefore less embarrassing than it could have been...Kimblee is typing like a hyperactive teenager. This can't possibly bode well. At all.]
[ACTION/VIDEO - GOLDENROD DEPT. STORE, SUNDOWN]
[And just as promised, after the sun goes down and there are a fair few people in the square - some NPCs, some not - there will be fireworks.
They aren't exactly high-grade, so the display isn't too impressive at first - a few pretty colors, maybe, but nothing terribly elaborate. Clearly whatever hyperactive teenager sent the message to the network will get a YOU TRIED........ Award, but it's nothing to write home about.
...and then other displays begin enhancing the explosions.
It's a bit difficult to pinpoint exactly where they're coming from, as there seems to be at least three Pokémon contributing to them - and the bolts of electricity must be coming from a Pokémon, they're unmistakably attacks like Spark - but the electricity seems timed to enhance the blasts put out by the fireworks, causing far larger explosions, shocks of electrical energy dancing between the trails of embers raining down from the sky.
Rather pretty, all things considered - it's gone from the work of an amateur into something far more advanced. Probably someone who knows what they're doing.
And while everyone's attention is trained skyward, that's when things start to go wrong.
It's a very planned-out sort of wrong; a calculated sort of wrong. A "something is firing Zap Cannon directly into the crowd" sort of wrong.
Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be aimed properly; Lock-On is clearly not being used. However, it's difficult to say what on earth is being aimed at in the first place; those who are quick enough to not get fried (easier than it sounds, given the lack of aim here) and analytical enough to notice patterns will realize shortly that there is none, though the attacks do seem to be coming from one particular direction - the assailant is situated on the rooftop of the Goldenrod Department Store. Certainly, making your way up there will ensure that you find one of your attackers.
However, there are secondary attacks that seem to be following the Zap Cannons - smaller attacks, Spark and occasionally Thunderbolt, though that latter one seems to be a bit more infrequent - and those seem far more directly-aimed, trying to take out individual targets rather than shooting into the crowd at random. These are coming from another rooftop a short distance away - one of the nondescript, privately-run shops that aren't directly affiliated with the Department Store itself. Entering that shop will find the shopkeepers knocked out, so it's clearly neither of them doing anything - so who else is up there?
Should you be in Goldenrod City and wanting to investigate the electrically-based mayhem, pick your path - either the Department Store, where you'll find the individual with the ridiculously powerful attacks and no sense of aim, or the nondescript shop, with the weaker attacks but some sort of strategy.
And for those not in Goldenrod City? The fireworks were definitely filmed for you. And after a sudden burst of jittercam veering off into the crowd? So was the attack on the civilians, until the feed suddenly snaps off mid-attack. Should you try to respond to this particular signal, responses will come a couple of hours later.
Enjoy.]
[OOC]
[HELLO, ROUTE. Kimblee is one of the Rockets that submitted himself as a human guinea pig for the sake of gaining stupid amounts of elemental powers! Of course, there's no way he's doing this entirely on his own - he has some...help, shall we say - but even so, he's having himself a pretty good time tonight.
Should you choose [action], regardless of which path is taken - the larger threat overall or the one that's actually strategizing - I'll be engaging you; feel free to mingle among yourselves as well, if you see fit to do so!]

Action
The Blitzle appears first, snorting and stomping her hooves, before tipping her head up; with the ability Lightningrod, she'll be the preventive measure for getting zapped. The second was a Mightyena, who gets pointed straight for the department store.]
Get up there and distract. Dodge everything, don't attack, just be obnoxious. Scary face and sand attack. [The Pokemon nods and is off, where the zebra sticks close to her trainer. Vanitas is reaching for a third pokeball now, but not releasing it just yet.]
Looks like we've gone and attracted the wrong attention, huh?
Action
Smart of you to send out something with Lightningrod, however; it absorbs the next Thunderbolt being sent in your direction. Kimblee linefaces a huge amount at that before falling silent; he isn't alone on the roof, his Gardevoir standing attentively next to him - he's worried about his trainer, there, but in the name of both of their best interests, he'll do as Kimblee says. And Kimblee doesn't have to speak out loud to communicate with him.
Upon noticing that the Electric attacks are suddenly not doing much at all, one of the bursts of energy that had been keeping the fireworks going once in a while up there stops; perhaps an insignificant detail for the time being, but not one that Kimblee wants too much notice being put to for now. He sends another Spark Mightyena's way; he doesn't expect it to hit, but he wants attention being kept on the current battlefield.]
Action
[ meanwhile Karkat is really wishing he had his own Mightyena for this round. alas...
he gives a low whistle and points to Vanitas' pooch. obediently, Will takes off to help the other Pokémon with Dragon Pulse. Karkat's next course of action is to throw out Alex, his Growlithe. pointing to that Gardevoir. ]
Use Crunch!
Action
With the warning, Vanitas only now releases the third pokemon; a Charizard. Not the average sized one either, and as soon as this one is out, he's belching fire and snarling, whipping his tail about. Vanitas waits for only a moment before he's reaching to catch part of the tail whipping his direction.]
Dartanian. See the guy up there? Go play.
[It's really rare for Dart to get that sort of an order, especially after the last time he and his trainer got into a uh.. scuffle. Gnashing his jaws and letting out a rather pleased roar, the Charizard opened his wings and took off.
Kimblee would probably like this Pokemon, if it were his; Dartanian is the type to love destroying everything with fire, and he doesn't hesitate in belching a flamethrower up the side of the building, letting flames lick the corners of the roof.]
Action
Either way, however, you're receiving no verbal indicators from the man up on that rooftop when it comes to what he's doing; the Gardevoir is quick to use Protect against that Crunch. And he's no longer alone, either; there was a reason for the stopping of those sparks earlier.
Karkat, you're going to be dealing with an Absol with a hell of a lot of TMs loaded into it; Ramsay snarls sharply, taking the Gardevoir's place while the Psychic pokemon Teleports back up to its master.
Kimblee himself has no defining features visible, even as the Charizard comes into view; he has a black hood and mask over his head, the thick fabric obscuring his features from view. His clothing, also, is entirely black and nondescript. He's narrow-shouldered, thin, his build rather nondescript overall; the most you're really going to get out of this, identification-wise, is "probably male."
However, as soon as that Charizard is close enough, there's another blast from the adjacent building; Zap Cannon again, aimed...uh...okay, kind of aimed at the firebeast, there. It's inaccurate as hell, but hopefully the wide blast radius will do something.]
Action
he tsks at the arrival of the Absol. thankfully... Karkat loads most of his up with TMs as well. Will and Alex? they're both armed with Rock Smash. right about now he really wishes his Scraggy was leveled up enough for this, but the little girl probably won't be able to handle a battle like this. he whistles again, a different tune, and Will steps up to the plate once more, ready to attack. ]
Alex... Agility.
[ yeah... only Will is trained on whistles. an idea that came from a conversation with Link. Growlithe is maxed out so Karkat really isn't worried about the pup not being able to take a hit. ]
Action
Nice mask. He might have to get one like that for "Xehanort"s missions. With her trainer up here, Dog comes running over and Vani drops the Blitzle on her hooves.]
Howl, then crunch. [With one point, the dark type is being pointed towards the Gardevoir; he himself will take on the guy.]
Okay! Due to the battlefield splitting and me wanting to avoid tag confusion, we are going over here
Says he who names his after WWII battleships.Kimblee is more than a bit wary of that Crunch attack; he needs the Gardevoir conscious for several reasons, and sacrificing him so early on isn't an option. However, the Pokémon he has out aren't the only ones he has with him - he's quick to pull out another Pokéball, releasing the creature inside.
The Golem is one that he doesn't use very often, primarily because he doesn't need anyone on the opposing side knowing he has one in his arsenal; as a generally faceless entity, however, he's more than willing to use it. The Gardevoir throws up a barrier in the form of Protect; however, that's less to guard against the Mightyena and more to keep him from taking damage from what that Golem is about to do.
Kimblee wants that Blitzle gone. Earthquake it is, then.
...Kimblee also has Electric powers himself and is...really not...thinking that part through. Um. Well. This is going to be interesting.]
no problemo!
He needs to deal with that Golem though, so Vanitas is reaching for his fourth Pokeball; he has to wait until he lands again to release it though.]
Okay! To avoid me battling on two different fronts in the same tag, Karkat over here, let's go!
However, after that the creature is quick to dart back into a more defensive position; it's fairly plain that whatever is actually ordering it around is a bit...confused - after all, Kimblee's a bit distracted by the battle on the rooftop up there, and for the time being, so is his Gardevoir.]
o7
Flamethrower!
[ Alex obliges, aiming for that ice. on contact, there's an angry hiss of ice instantly melting and becoming air. an accidental misting or haze, really. so now there's some mild fog in the air and Karkat clicks his tongue against his teeth. he and Will can't really see. the Haxorus draws closer to Karkat, but the once troll isn't done yet. ]
Alex! Odor Sleuth that Absol out! Use Agility and Rock Smash!
