Memory seems to be something of an elusive thing for some people, from what I've heard; I've never really considered it to be much of a problem myself, for various reasons both personal and not. But since we're all in this more or less together, and we have no obvious indication of if - or when, depending on your level of optimism - we'll be returned to our worlds of origin, I have to admit curiosity regarding the experiences of others.

Memories being the finicky things that they are, I'm sure we all have things we remember vividly about home - people, places, various other whatnot that I'm sure mattered to you at the time. I'm mostly curious about the people; you don't have to give me specifics if you choose not to, but I want to know -

What sort of things do you remember most vividly about the people that were important to you, and what sort of things do you not remember but wish you could? I'm sure we've all had that jarring moment when we realize that we don't remember what someone's voice sounded like, for example; I want to hear about things like that, if you don't mind. As always, do it anonymously, if you wish; I have less interest in your name than I do your answer.

Perhaps someday I'll learn to ask questions that are more seasonally-appropriate for any oncoming holidays; unfortunately, I've never really been one to adhere to the spirit of a season that I have no real understanding of in the first place.

I found it made my life far simpler when I embraced it. I'm a weapon, and I'm quite proud to be that way; anyway, I suppose at this point all that's relevant is that I'm alive at all.

I'm not so eager to be used, even if that's more often the case than not.

In my case, the benefits for being used were far greater than the indignity of being used in the first place; every sacrifice I made only served to make me stronger. So really, I was more than fine with it by the time I came here.

I've never had anyone to lose, so I can't say that I can commiserate.

Always met new people, always lost them. Count yourself lucky.

I've met plenty; the difference, I suppose, is that I was always aware that I wouldn't keep them.

I never expected to meet them; I was always sent on solo missions. But sometimes I'd lend a hand, or meet an ally... Or be betrayed.

I've always preferred to work alone for that reason, actually.

I always work alone, my only support is over the radio. I never depend on anyone but myself.

Because you're the only one you can trust to do what's necessary?

Because if I'm by myself, I won't attract any attention. I only work sneaking missions.

Ah, stealth missions; I've done a bit of infiltration and basic espionage in the past, but that's more manipulation than anything - if you're talking about what I think you are, then that's never been my strong point. Entirely too subtle for my liking, though it's admirable if it can be pulled off properly.

Usually I'm being sent in if they want to quietly prevent all out nuclear war and keep their countries (and politics) from looking bad. They're more obsessed with their image than actually fixing the problem... A sneaking mission ensures they can save face and erase the evidence.

I'm assuming that's something from well into the future - for what it's worth, I'm from 1915 and even by those standards I understand that we're a little behind, technologically.

Ah, that's exciting - I don't think I've met anyone else from that far along in the timeline.

Though from the way you're describing your world, that may be a good thing in some ways.
