Growing up, I spent a great deal of time around evil men. I told you about the one who used to tell me riddles, who...would've called me his student. He was far from the only one. But he was the one who played the game best of all. He...sometimes, he talked to me the way you do. Sometimes it's like talking to him all over again.

I understand rivalries. Danger. The game. It's easier than the alternative. The challenge makes the alternative more rewarding in the long run, but...even when I'm changed by the people around me, some things stay constant. That...fascination...stays constant.

I like the chase. I like to be chased. That's how I know I'm important. Sometimes that means that to some people, the wrong person, I end up...too important.

What's good for me left, months ago. You...you're more like a bad habit I can't break. The latest manifestation of an addiction I can never seem to decide if I even want to overcome.

One of them decided he was in love with you, didn't he? At least, that's what your wording implies - was it the one who would have considered you his student, or someone else entirely?

There were two. My two great rivals. One the teacher, and the other my...student. Of sorts.

My significant other was a magnificent exception to the trend. His sense of justice and honor was...unparalleled.

But something's going to happen to him, I think. Whatever it was he returned to, it wasn't good.

It's complicated. Too complicated to explain accurately, and he wasn't particularly forthcoming about some of it — out of some desire to protect me, I think.

He was present for several of those strange weekends while he was here, the three-day blackouts. He always had the sense that there was a sort of...escalation, to them. There was something he was afraid of, and during those times, he seemed to think it had gotten in temporarily. That, among other things, it would target me.

I think he went back and had a confrontation with it. And I think he lost.

Now that I know about that...there's someone from my world who's capable of possessing others and using them as vessels. Obviously, that wouldn't be anything he's capable of here; just the same, I wouldn't want you to strike up any sort of running dialogue with him and find that out about him later.

I'll tell you if I see him; he's been here once before, briefly.
