Pokemon: Information

There's something of a naming tradition in Fullmetal Alchemist regarding the military personnel: almost everyone who serves (or has served) in the Amestrian military was named after a military vehicle, vessel or weapon. Kimblee himself was named after the USS Kimberly, a name given to two United States naval destroyers that served in World War I and World War II, respectively.

Continuing with this tradition, Kimblee's Pokémon will be named after battleships and dreadnoughts, most of them World War II-era.

Electrode
  • Kimblee's starter. Received from Team Rocket as a Voltorb on 10/04/2011.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Originally named 'Aya', which is explained further down; Kimblee stripped this name after the permanent boxing and bestowed it upon the new Electrode he's training in its place.
  • Permanently boxed in February of 2012, at level 88. The microchipping done by Team Rocket ensured that its primary loyalty would not be to Kimblee; after almost 60 levels of constant abuse, it eventually turned on him, nearly killing him in the process.

Carlisle
  • Purchased as an egg from Xanxus on 10/20/2011.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after a C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy. The HMS Carlisle was launched in 1918 and reclassified as an anti-aircraft ship in 1940; she was credited as the top-scoring anti-aircraft ship in the Royal Navy.
  • The first of Kimblee's Pokémon to reach level 100. Kimblee relies most heavily on Carlisle, both in battle and outside of it as a primary line of defense; always eager to battle and incredibly confident in his own abilities, Carlisle is one to ignore the humans if possible and go off to do his own thing while they're talking/working things out. Granted, sneaking off has gotten decidedly more difficult since evolving into a tremendous murdermammoth, but he does what he can.

Dorian
  • Purchased as an egg from Xanxus on 10/20/2011.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Dorian was named after the Italian battleship Andrea Doria, a dreadnought of the Regia Marina. Completed in 1916 and extensively rebuilt between 1937 and 1940, she served in both World Wars; after the Armistice in September of 1943, the ship was interned by the Allies until after the war, when she was returned to Italy and served as a training ship until 1953.
  • A spoiled prince of a fox, often subjected to Kimblee's apparent attempts to make Blofeld go "Damn, son"; he's accustomed to being carried and incredibly linefacey that Kimblee refuses to do so now that he's evolved, though the increased power and defense that came with the evolution is definitely doing a lot to stroke his ego. Very prone to stealing any toaster pastries or dark chocolate Kimblee has with him - so yes, this is the one who started Kimblee's habit of offering his Pokémon said pastries as treats - and regardless of how much he seems to look down on everyone, he's very loyal to his trainer and won't hesitate to attack if Kimblee is directly threatened.

Abdiel
  • Received as a Yanma on 12/25/2011, as a Christmas present from Archer.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMS Abdiel, an Abdiel-class minelayer that served with the Royal Navy during World War II. She served with the Mediterranean Fleet, the Eastern Fleet and the Home Fleet; she was designed for speed, and used as both a minelayer and a fast transport due to that speed as well as her capacity.
  • Abdiel has always been more like a dog than an overlarge dragonfly; she likes to chase empty Pokéballs around when she's bored, and enjoys being rewarded with playtime after battle, often bringing sticks to be thrown so she can go retrieve them. ...unfortunately, her attention span is horrible and she's very prone to losing the stick, often taking forever to find it again, but she tries.

Hunter
  • Caught as a Pineco in Ilex Forest on 01/28/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after what was originally known as the USS Block Island, an Attacker-class escort aircraft carrier that served during World War II; she was transferred to the United Kingdom via the Lend-Lease program and renamed the HMS Hunter in 1943. She participated in Operation Zipper and Operation Tiderance, the reoccupation of Malaya and Singapore from the Japanese, in August of 1945.
  • Kimblee honestly wonders half the time if Hunter is defective or something, given that Pineco tend to like to explode upon being confronted; Hunter, on the other hand, was possibly the most chill pinecone in the world. A zencone, if you will. Before his evolution, he was rather fond of letting Kimblee carry him around, and he didn't mind Kimblee's ridiculous Blofelding; if anything, he seemed to enjoy the attention.

Jacob
  • Caught as a Geodude in Union Cave on 02/02/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after the HNLMS Jacob van Heemskerk, a Tromp-class light cruiser of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Originally designed as a flotilla leader and torpedo cruiser, she was hastily outfitted instead as an air defense cruiser after she escaped to the UK following Germany's invasion of the Netherlands; she eventually received the reputation that not a single convoy ship would be lost when she was on duty.
  • Jacob is, for lack of a better term, a tremendous troll. Think back to every Pokémon game you have ever played - those Gravelers that seem to wait around in caves only to explode as soon as you come across them with your level 7 Magikarp you're trying to evolve in the front of your party? Yeah. That would be Jacob if he had been left to his own devices. Pretty much everything that trainers hate about this evolutionary line. Naturally, Kimblee loves him.

Kenya
  • Adopted as a Starmie by Kimblee at level 80, on 02/07/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Though it's likely not the reason behind the naming, its original name fits in with the naming scheme and so it was kept - the HMS Kenya was a Crown Colony-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy. She was utilized to hunt down and sink U-boats in Operation Stonewall, and participated in the hunt for the Bismarck and the sinking of the German supply tanker Belchen.
  • Previously owned by Shiraishi Kuranosuke, but given up for adoption at the Foster Home run by Merlin. A little shy and doesn't easily trust people. Often throws bubbles in the air if he likes people. Wants to be the fastest Starmie there is.

Carinthia
  • Caught as a Milotic in Violet City on 02/14/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after the RMS Carinthia, which was laid down in 1924 and made her maiden voyage in 1925. She was originally created as a passenger liner, noted for her innovations and accommodations in third class and well-equipped first class; however, she was refitted and converted into an armed merchant cruiser at the beginning of World War II.
  • Carinthia's capture was the result of a Valentine's Day event, when Kimblee was a bit too drugged-up on happybeams to really realize what the hell he was catching (much less what gender the damn thing actually was). As a result, he has a very pretty male Pokémon with a very pretty feminine name, that refuses to answer to anything else. ...that said, Kimblee is hardly complaining, as it is still very pretty and has potential to be a complete wall, so he'll put up with calling him whatever he wants to be called.

Keith
  • Bred from Isaac's Shellder; hatched on 02/19/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMS Keith, a B-class destroyer flotilla leader of the Royal Navy. She saw service in early World War II, serving as a convoy escort and utilized as a means to evacuate Allied troops from the Netherlands. She was also deployed to evacuate Allied troops from Dunkirk during Operation Dynamo, and coordinated the evacuation at De Panne.
  • Keith exists for battle and very little else; he doesn't seem to take much interest in anything else, often sleeping or spending time up in his head, generally ignoring everything in his immediate vicinity until it's time to either fight or eat.

Lizaveta
  • Received as an egg during the Valentine's event; hatched on 02/21/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMS Queen Elizabeth, a dreadnought battleship that saw service during both World Wars, as well as serving as the flagship of the Atlantic Fleet from 1919 to 1924.
  • Lizaveta is the sort that tends to see strangers as friends she hasn't met yet; she's incredibly playful and doesn't like to stay in one place for too long. Though she doesn't mind battling, she's not the sort to be confrontational or pick fights on her own.

Taylor
  • Purchased from the breeding center; hatched on 02/21/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after a Fletcher-class destroyer of the United States Navy. The USS Taylor participated heavily in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and engaged in several hunter-killer antisubmarine operations, and was the first destroyer to anchor in Japanese coastal waters at the end of World War II.
  • Taylor is an incredibly arrogant little jerk of an antlion; she's awesome and she knows it, a notion that is decidedly more justified now that she's evolved a couple of times and Kimblee's hit up a move tutor. She's always been one of the very few that's resistant to Kimblee's attempts at spoiling her, as she never liked being picked up - the few times Kimblee tried resulted in his face damn near getting bitten off - but she seems to find him much more tolerable now that she isn't...well, a bitty thing anymore. And by "finding him much more tolerable" I mean "she's stopped openly trying to bite him."

Aya
  • Caught as a Voltorb in the Team Rocket base in Mahogany Town on 03/13/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Aya's namesake is the Japanese destroyer Ayanami, a Fubuki-class destroyer built for the Imperial Japanese Navy following World War I. She served as a front-line destroyer through the 1930s and well into the Pacific War; she was also the first ship to have specialized turrets that permitted her weapons to be used as dual-purpose guns against aircraft.
  • Aya was caught by Kimblee specifically because its personality is very close to his starter's was before the microchipping - generally shy around new people and Pokémon, yet inherently curious about them and as such not immediately prone to fleeing in new situations.

Anthony
  • Adopted as an Arcanine by Kimblee at level 100, on 03/15/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMS Anthony, an A-class destroyer of the Royal Navy during World War II. She served in several escort convoys over the course of the war, and served a vital part in Operation Ironclad, breaking a deadlock with the Vichy French resistance off of Diego Suarez, Madagascar by breaking through their defenses and creating a "disturbance in the town out of all proportion to their numbers."
  • Previously named "Toni" and owned by Wataru Mitani, but given up for adoption at the Foster Home (now run by Souji Seta). A very excitable Pokémon that likes to play with its trainer. Unfortunately, play often means rummaging through said trainer's belongings and grabbing one at random, forcing them to chase him around to get it back. He's very loyal though, and always up for a good fight.

Archer
  • Received as a Gardevoir from...well, Archer, on 03/22/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Built by the United States and operated by the Royal Navy, the HMS Archer was originally built as a cargo ship, but was converted instead to an escort carrier. Technical difficulties ensured that she was withdrawn early from front-line service, though she was kept as a stores and accommodation ship throughout World War II. This obviously has nothing to do with why Kimblee actually named the Gardevoir this, but it's relevant, okay.
  • Originally named "Bishop" and renamed immediately because Kimblee felt like being a jerk that day. Archer is the prettiest Gardevoir, okay. He's very self-centered and ridiculously fond of staring at his reflection for hours on end...at least until something happens to render his trainer upset or unstable, at which point he will not leave said trainer alone and attempts to fix their problems with Heal Pulse. Because Heal Pulse fixes all things.

Nagara
  • Received as a gift from Archer on 03/08/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the lead ship of the Nagara-class of light cruiser in the Imperial Japanese Navy. Like other vessels in her class, she was intended for use as the flagship of a destroyer flotilla; she participated in the invasions of the Philippines and the Netherlands East Indies during World War II.
  • Despite being a thirty-foot exploding steelsnake, Nagara is one of the calmest Pokémon on the planet; she isn't quite to Hunter's level of zen, but she takes orders well, and when Kimblee allows her out of the ball for long periods of time she enjoys just curling up and sleeping somewhere outside, usually in the sun.

Savoia
  • Caught as a Venonat in the National Park on 03/28/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the Eugenio di Savoia, a Condottieri-class light cruiser which served in the Regia Marina during World War II. She was initially deployed off the coast of Barcelona, Spain, bombarding the city and causing 18 deaths; she also participated in the Battle of Punta Stilo, Operation Harpoon and Operation Pedestal.
  • Savoia is extremely docile and usually off in her own little world; she's a bit of a dreamer, and she's usually more content sitting in the grass or in trees than looking for a fight. However, she's incredibly alert to sounds and has been trained by Kimblee to use this tendency to alert him to other people's presences or other dangers that may be in the area. She's also one that he uses on Team Rocket raids, due to both the abovementioned alertness and her ability to see in the dark.

Ramsay
  • The result of breeding between Dorian and Kistna; hatched on 03/17/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the USS Ramsay, a Wickes-class destroyer used during World War I and World War II; moored at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1945, the first time she actually fired her guns in combat was against carrier-based planes delivering Japan's declaration of war against the United States. She was primarily used for laying minefields and dropping depth charges against Japanese submarines.
  • Kimblee started raising Ramsay after discovering that the progeny of Dorian and Kistna know some absolutely horrifying shit; given that he now had an Absol that knows things like Fire Blast, he did the logical thing and started training it like the murderbeast it is...or, well, was supposed to be. Unfortunately, Ramsay is the shyest thing on the planet, prone to hiding behind his trainer when initially engaged. However, just because he dislikes direct confrontation doesn't mean that he's opposed to battling overall; he's the sort that prefers to catch his opponent off-guard from right the hell out of nowhere - something Kimblee can't say he disapproves of.

Molotov
  • Caught as a Numel during a swarm on 04/28/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after the Soviet cruiser Molotov, a Project 26bis Kirov-class that served during World War II and into the Cold War; she supported Soviet troops during the Seige of Sevastopol, the Kerch-Feodosiya Operation, and the landings at Novorossiysk in 1943.
  • Yet to be determined.

Æger
  • Received from Archer on 04/02/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the HNoMS Æger, a Sleipner-class destroyer of the Norwegian navy. During the German invasion of Norway in 1940, she sank the clandestine German supply ship Roda, and was among the first Norwegian ships to encounter the forces of Operation Weserübung, shooting down two attacking bombers during a direct attack on the ship.
  • Most Togepi are considered bringers of happiness, compassion and good fortune; Kimblee isn't too sure how true that is, because his has always been made of pure, unadulterated "HELL YEAH." Æger seems to have picked up on his trainer's general tendencies toward Rule of Badass, and he happily follows Kimblee around squealing and trying to prove his own awesome by Shadow Balling the crap out of everything he comes across; this sort of behavior isn't through malice, but rather because he's learned that Awesome tends to make Kimblee pleased, and he really likes making his trainer pleased.

Aldea
  • Purchased from the breeding center; hatched on 04/25/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the Serrano-class destroyer Aldea of the Chilean Navy. One of six vessels to serve Chile during World War II, the class was ordered from the United Kingdom and delivered in 1929. Like its sister ships, she was also armed for duties as a minelayer.
  • Yet to be determined.

Lawrence
  • Purchased from the breeding center; hatched on 04/25/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMIS Lawrence, a sloop that served the Royal Indian Navy during World War II; though she was originally built as a minesweeper, she was primarily used as a convoy escort during the war. She also participated in the attack on Abadan, Iran, boarding and capturing two Iranian gunboats and two Italian merchant ships.
  • Yet to be determined.

Michelle
  • Purchased from the breeding center; hatched on 04/29/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the German ship originally built as the merchant vessel Bielsko. She was recommissioned by the Kriegsmarine at the outset of World War II, first converted into the hospital ship Bonn and then, in 1941, into the auxilary cruiser Michel. She operated as a merchant raider over the course of the war.
  • Yet to be determined.

Victoria
  • Received as an egg from Archer; hatched on 05/05/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMS Victorious, an Illustrious-class aircraft carrier that served in the Royal Navy during World War II. She took several actions against the battleship Bismarck, as well as participating in several Arctic convoys and the Pedestal convoy to Malta. She was also loaned to the US Navy for a brief period in 1943, where she served in the southwest Pacific under the name USS Robin.
  • Yet to be determined.

Sarah
  • Caught as a Scolipede during a swarm on 05/28/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the USS Saratoga, a Lexington-class destroyer of the US Navy about whom details will come later because the mun has misplaced her boat information like a champ.
  • Yet to be determined.

Thetis
  • Stolen as an Eevee from the Kimono Girls on 03/27/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after what was originally known as the HNoMS Harold Haarfagre, a Norwegian Tordenskjold-class costal defense ship. During the German invasion of Norway in World War II, she was captured and rebuilt as a floating Flak battery under the new name Thetis. She also saw use briefly as a floating barracks, and was used to transport German POWs after the war.
  • Evolved immediately after the theft; Thetis is a friendly little thing. Like Savoia, he's also alert to sounds, though he doesn't put that to any good use - rather, he prefers to run off to investigate whatever the source of the noise was. He likes spending time around humans - the more humans the better, really - and he's very fond of Kimblee's ridiculous Blofelding; he loves being carried and batting at Kimblee's hairtennae, and he's much like a cat in that he likes to squirm around when being held until he's in a position to...broface you, for lack of a better term.

Branden
  • Stolen as an Eevee from the Kimono Girls on 03/27/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after what was originally known as the French transport Kita, captured by German troops during World War II and renamed the Brandenburg. Initially planned to be used as a fast escort vessel after her capture, she eventually ended up modified into a minelayer instead.
  • Evolved immediately after the theft; Branden likes to stay close to one person at a time, preferring to follow his trainer around quietly rather than be carried and put on display, as it were. While he doesn't normally like battle, he'll fight if pushed far enough or consistently provoked; once he does enter some sort of altercation, he's very much the Tranquil Fury type - he doesn't get worked up, rather attacking calmly and methodically, and he doesn't take losses very well, often moping about for days afterwards.

Nairana
  • Caught as a Seedot in Ilex Forest on 06/15/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • The HMS Nairana was the lead ship of the Royal Navy's Nairana-class escort carriers that saw service during WWII; at the start of her construction she was intended as a merchant ship, but was completed and launched as an escort carrier in 1943. She operated escorting convoys and did anti-submarine work, claiming the destruction of three Junkers Ju 920s during the defense of a convoy; those three represented ten percent of the German inventory of that type.
  • Yet to be determined.

Scylla and Charybdis
  • Received as eggs from Archer; hatched on 03/19/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • The HMS Scylla and the HMS Charybdis were Dido-class cruisers of the Royal Navy that saw service during World War II. These ships were known as the "toothless terrors", due to having been mounted with lighter guns because of a shortage in mountings; despite this disadvantage, they often drew comparisons to ships with far heavier weaponry, earning several Battle Honours between them.
  • Scylla and Charybdis aren't exactly the brightest pair of Eevees in the world. Kimblee prefers to keep them together, and as such they tend to be referred to as a unit; they don't seem to have realized that they have individual names yet, nor do they answer to them. Kimblee is unwilling to chide them too much for it, however, as he's trying to get happiness evolutions out of them.

Kistna
  • Received as an egg from Clive on 12/25/2011, also as a Christmas present.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after a Black Swan-class sloop which served in the Royal Indian Navy during World War II. The HMIS Kistna was primarily used for escorts, though she also performed support duties in Operation Romulus, Operation Matador, Operation Dracula and Operation Zipper.
  • Kimblee tends to be a bit wary of Kistna; even though she's a glass cannon in terms of battle, she tends to be very aggressive when left to her own devices. She's incredibly rough-and-tumble, often prone to jumping/pinning him during play and biting him when she doesn't get her way; these tendencies are actually more through playfulness than genuine viciousness, but since he's already had one Pokémon turn on him and doesn't exactly want another, he doesn't tend to go terribly hard when he trains her.

Lexi
  • Caught as a Drifloon in Ilex Forest on 01/27/2012.
  • Trained and willing to attack humans.
  • Named after the USS Lexington, an Essex-class aircraft carrier also known as "The Blue Ghost." She served in several campaigns in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, receiving the Presidential Unit Citation and eleven battle stars for World War II service.
  • Surprisingly assertive for something so herpy-looking, as a Drifloon Lexi was not opposed to getting in Kimblee's face or wrapping those little tendril-strings around his wrist and pulling him somewhere if she really wants to go; even as a Drifblim, she still gets up in his face, it's just...slightly more terrifying now. She's also taken up Dorian's pastry-stealing duties whenever Kimblee leaves her out of the ball.

Havelock
  • Purchased from the breeding center; hatched on 02/25/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after an H-class destroyer formerly known as the Jutahy, commissioned by the Brazilian Navy. The HMS Havelock was purchased by the Royal Navy after the beginning of World War II and renamed; she participated in the Norwegian Campaign and was assigned to convoy escort and anti-submarine patrols with the Western Approaches Command.
  • Havelock is more of a solitary creature when it comes to other Pokémon; it doesn't seem too interested in interacting or trying to make friends, preferring to spend time with its trainer directly. Unfortunately, it spends a lot of time boxed because Kimblee doesn't the fact that he can feel another presence in his head whenever Havelock is out, and he's a bit weirded out by the concept of the giant looming rock in the corner just...reading him like that.

Wilhelm
  • Caught as a Stunky in Ilex Forest on 06/15/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the German Type-1936 destroyer Wilhelm Heidkamp, about which information will come later because the mun has lost her boat information like a champ.
  • Yet to be determined.

Leah
  • Received as an egg from Archer; hatched on 03/15/2012.
  • Not trained to attack humans.
  • Named after the HMNZS Leander, the lead ship of a class of light cruisers that served the Royal New Zealand Navy during World War II. Originally the HMS Leander, she was loaned to New Zealand in 1937 and returned to the Royal Navy after the war's conclusion in 1945; she served in the Pacific and Indian Oceans - sinking, intercepting and capturing two armed merchant ships - before being deployed to the Persian Gulf for support of military operations there.
  • Yet to be determined.
