Not as the primary sentient beings, no. But other entities did exist, for a time; they considered themselves to be evolved humans - they were far more adept in terms of general physical prowess, their regenerative capabilities were vastly superior, and they had...abilities, let's say, that put them in a different class altogether. Altering one's appearance at will, for example, or creating claws of sorts from one's hands that were capable of penetrating just about anything.

There were only seven of them; the past tense is, rather unfortunately, completely relevant.
