I've never been one for heroics, for one thing. There are circumstances where I'll act to save someone, but those are few and far between, and I've always known the person I'm supposed to be saving.
In the scenario provided, I'll face no repercussions for not saving the person in question, and I find that it's not reprehensible to me to let them die. There's no benefit to the action outside of what I place on it, and I have no reason to feel anything toward this perfect stranger, much less a desire to preserve their life.
