The answer is so obvious, he feels stupid once it comes to him. They already have a relationship that's much closer than most friends, and possibly even closer than some couples. They know each other better than anyone else and while yes, they do fight, they also work well together in ways Archer never would have imagined.
He's not upset because the status quo doesn't need to be changed. Everything is perfect just the way it is.
