Ah...no, there isn't any sort of equipment necessary, actually. All you need is a conduit - a Transmutation Circle drawn onto, around, or very near the material you want to manipulate. My own specialty is energy manipulation, though I can transmute one material into another if I focus on it well enough. Those sorts of tangible transmutations end up being very crude and not terribly beautiful, however; the most I'm really capable of is shifting parts around and creating abominations.

Energy manipulation is a different matter, however. Again, using the Circles as conduits, I can redirect and conduct energy flows into structures, objects or the ground; this intentionally produces an instability within the material and forces an explosion out of it.

Alchemy can be used for many things, but the sort I'm familiar with is used in combat. We're weapons, essentially.
