I see no reason not to. Admittedly, you would have to obtain one of the badges so that the creature in question will obey you, but that one is easy to obtain; it's in Violet City, and the Pokémon you would fight to get it would be reasonably low-leveled - level thirty-five and below, if I remember correctly.

I can assist you with that once you've been here for a while and trained your own creatures a bit higher, should you like that; otherwise, you can get the badge at your leisure, as it will take the one I'm giving you a while to evolve.
