I believe in holding firm to one's convictions, and that one's fundamental beliefs should be something that one both decides for themselves and adheres to even in adversity. The hypocrisy of abandoning your life's views as soon as something more convenient comes along disgusts me above all else.

However, that isn't to say that one's point of view can never change, or that the viewpoints of others are any less valid; failing to take such things into account will lead to a swift downfall, really. I may not often agree with you, for example, but I'm willing to take into account that you can - and frequently do - make a valid point.
